Mouldmaking is a struggle :P

It was supposed to take me a day maybe two... a week later I am still starting each day with the thought 'I'll have my mould ready today'.
It turns out to be very time consuming and quite stressful procedure but I am happy to finally see the results- I don't have my moulds ready yet but the models are finished, at least some of them :)

They will be giant wall tiles (about 50x50 cm) I was planning to make lights but have just 4 weeks left before assessments and using porcelain can be very tricky so I will probably have to change my plan and use stoneware instead. Will make lights next year I promise!
I love them already :)

Porcelain Paperclay

I still don't know exactly how my finished pieces are going to look like but I know that I want to make something light and translucent. That is why I had decided to work in porcelain. Some of the forms can be too difficult to construct in porcelain without risking that they will collaps in the kiln. In order to overcome this obstacle I had prepared some paperclay which is lighter and hopefully will keep the shape better. First I cut porcelain in small pieces and let them get bone dry. Then I crushed them even more and added water to make smooth slip. When I had porcelain slip prepared I teared up some toilet paper and soaked it in hot water. After some time I sieved it and mixed with porcelain slip.

Something different

It's almost Christmas time and I was given a chance to take part in Craft Fair organized on Limerick's Milkmarket. It was an experience all right but I don't think I want to carry on with this type of sells... I have sold just few stars and I am deeply disappointed. There were simply no people there, I don't know what was the reason... maybe it's because of the recession.... Well anyway here is the stuff I was trying to sell, hope you like it :

Artist in Residency

I had a great opportunity to be the artist in residence at Husk for 6 months. During that time I had developed a process of working with inks on acetate. Here are some examples of the abstract paintings that are the results of my experiments.
