Illustrations - 'Portraits'

For last couple of weeks I have been working on a next project in which I want to use some of my drawings. I have started my adventure in art as a portrait and caricature artist and after so many years I am enjoying them again. My favourite thing about line sketches is that it's very expressive and 'simple'.

Sketchbook time

Some colours for a dull day. I was on the bus to Berlin today and I started doodling in my sketchbook. As I often do, I have ended up with a collection of faces... I like those shaky lines. The drawings are tiny, probably about 2-3cm each. As I came home, I've played with lines a bit more. This time I have used thick marker, continues lines and watercolours. The faces are quite grotesque but I have really enjoyed the process.

Leipzig Seeks Design (LSD) part of the Designers' Open

Getting ready for my first exhibition in Germany :) I am very excited! If you are in Leipzig between 24 and 26 of October, please visit me at Uhlandstrasse 24. Tessellations will be exhibited with work by Elke Sada and Barbara Hast as part of Leipzig seeks Design at this year's Designers' Open.

Some glazes and more textures

I am almost done with the preparation for the Degree Show and in last 2 weeks I've tested some glazes on the tiles. I didn't want to loose the definition of the lines and decided to glaze only insets and I am very please with the results :D I also had a chance to take better photos of my glazed prints and textures. On top of that there are some new textures here and I think that I will live them unglazed. So here it goes: Still hot from the kiln :D

Casts, prints and textures

I was very busy   for last few weeks and had some ups and downs during that time but it looks like I am on the right track now :D I still can't decide how many and what combinations I want to show in the exhibition but I hope I will figure it out soon. I have 13 final tiles, it's easier to spot the differences between them when they are mixed. Here is the first set of 6. As I mentioned before I want to link the old and new parts of the college building in my work. To do that I have collected textures from around the campus and then placed them inside the tile.  I am also experimenting with printing some of the textures as line drawings on clay.
