New Project :)

After the assessments we were given 2 choices: continue with first project but bring more depth to it or start fresh.... I decided that I need a break so new project it is!
I knew it was a good decision as soon as I started my research :)
My main sources this time are trees and architecture - or to be more specific the patterns they create.

I have to write my own brief soon which is quite interesting- it means that it will be my first MY project :)

I have already started working in sketchbook and I like it very much - it's good to have a break from all that technical problems I was facing last semester.

Here are some photos that inspired me :)

It all started some time ago. I find the shapes of trees very appealing.

When I took this photo a year ago I knew that I will use it one day as a source.

Looking at trees in cities can be interesting. I think this image is quite strong and it sums up my main area of interest: order versus freedom.

I have noticed that some times the trees can nicely complement the patterns on the buildings not only break them.

Reflections are very interesting as well.

And finally: shadows.

Porcelain Paperclay

I still don't know exactly how my finished pieces are going to look like but I know that I want to make something light and translucent. That is why I had decided to work in porcelain.  Some of the forms can be too difficult to construct in porcelain without risking that they will collaps in the kiln.  In order to overcome this obstacle I had prepared some paperclay which is lighter and hopefully will keep the shape better.  First I cut porcelain in small pieces and let them get bone dry. Then I crushed them even more and added water to make smooth slip. When I had porcelain slip prepared I teared up some toilet paper and soaked it in hot water. After some time I sieved it and mixed with porcelain slip.

Dublin

In last two months I was in Dublin more often then in whole 6 years of living in Ireland! This week I was very lucky to be part of Ceramics Ireland Exhibition which takes place in Rathfarnham Castle starting this Saturday until 27th August. The Castle itself is interesting thing to visite but the exhibition is located in one of the rooms that wasn't renovated and it looks amazing... But more about it in my next post... Now I wanted to show you some photos I took that day... As some of you have noticed I like Architecture and Patterns so don't be surprised :) Hope you'll like them :) I do :)

Final Project :)

Hi again :) This time I have just one FINAL project :) I had to pick something that will keep me interested and excited for a whole year so it may not be a surprise to some of you that I decided to base my work onece again on architecture. Most of my inspiration photos are already in the previous post -I just love the patters and reflections in them. Here are some of them just to remind you what I have in mind.  And here is what I did in PhotoShop to bring some of the plans forward and broaden my research.  Now I just have to do the magic and get something interesting out of them in my sketchbook :) I am looking forward to do that but on the other hand I know it is a tough project.... Well I hope to update you soon with my drawings and swatches :) Please let me know what you think :)
