Model-making stage

When working on a project after drawing stage of research I'm ussualy starting to make models which are a 3d 'translation' of my drawings. This is my favourite part of  work :) I can play with different materials in order to find more inspirations.

This time I was working directly from (and on ) plastic bottles. By following the shapes and already existing patterns I have created forms that hopefully will give an idea for clay work.

I have started with simply cutting bottles into pieces. Then working with each part separately I was trying to find interesting form or create movement.

I was very attracted to patterns on the bottle's bodies.

I have used the indentations as a guideline and separated the bodies into single segments.
Eventually I have ended up with many little pieces which become modules of a new form.

By manipulating and repeating the same basic part I have achieved quite interesting forms.

Porcelain Paperclay

I still don't know exactly how my finished pieces are going to look like but I know that I want to make something light and translucent. That is why I had decided to work in porcelain.  Some of the forms can be too difficult to construct in porcelain without risking that they will collaps in the kiln.  In order to overcome this obstacle I had prepared some paperclay which is lighter and hopefully will keep the shape better.  First I cut porcelain in small pieces and let them get bone dry. Then I crushed them even more and added water to make smooth slip. When I had porcelain slip prepared I teared up some toilet paper and soaked it in hot water. After some time I sieved it and mixed with porcelain slip.

Blast from the past :D

I was cleaning my apartment this week and I found very old drawings - some even from 2002 but I won't show them :) Here are some drawings I did in 2007 They are far from good and I like to think I could do better now :) At the time I was making them I was attending Portfolio Preparation Course in Limerick College of Further Education and all of the above were my homework life drawings of Tomek. I was very 'stressed' in them and couldn't loosen up even though I was trying - I was still afraid of the big white page in front of me.  All my skills and approach was straight from polish art course - it was all about the technique and I didn't know anything about creativity and was a bit scared when I discovered that I am able to make crazy thing as well: They are all a product of one night work :) I got crazy and was drawing to the music - as you can see it made me happy. This batch of drawings is the 'looses...
