Plaster models and lots of hard work

I have here some photos of my last week work. I am trying to reproduce my paper panels in plaster but I must admit that it it very complicated and I am slowly loosing my confidence in the pieces... I will keep working on them until I will see the results - without a cast I don't know if it's working or not. I will try to stay positive but it's hard. I've started with a plaster batt and marked the lines of my design. The I got it cut in 4 and started shaping the angles. I will be working on the other lines now - sorry that they are not very visible here, will update soon. At the same time I have my 'simple' model made and now I am waiting for silicon to dry. I will multiply this model and arrange it to make a big tile model.

Thesis - critical and contextual approach to ceramics

This year aside of my studio project I have to write thesis - 'Using industrial ceramics forms and techniques to produce art objects.' I thought that maybe some of you will find it interesting or helpful, so I will put up some of my research. The articles and essays are really interesting and I think that they explain well the 21st Century approach to ceramics combining art, design and craft. I will update this post as I go along and add more texts. 'Otherwise unobtainable: the applied arts and the politics and poetics of digital technology.' T.Harrod,  'Patterns of making: thinking and making in industrial design.' H.Rees 'Contemporary clay.' C. Twomey 'Object Factory II' M.Cecula and D. Kopala

Sketchbook- week 2: Model making

As I said in the last post I was confused and didn't know what direction I want to go with this project. There is so much going on in the photos I have selected as my sources and even more in the images created in photoshop... In order to narrow down my research I was advised to came up with the name for the project and write down the concept.... I still didn't find the name and my concept is not written in stone but I know what is important to me and what I want to concentrate on. 1. Geometrical forms - structures that will include the patterns - very clean lines. 2. Reflections and light - that will be my surfaces - highly glossy. Should be easy :) I started with some clumsy models that will deal with layers - that was before I've organized my project. And after stating my priorities I came up with simple shallow '3D' panels. I am happy with them and I want to create more patterns and them maybe construct b...

Sketchbook- week 1

It took me a while to get going but I am back on my feet and working away :) So after playing with Photoshop I did some drawings and started 3D swatches and mini models. I had couple of approaches and was a bit confused for some time. First I did some simple drawings concentrating on most interesting parts from the photos. It wasn't exactly what I was looking for but it helped me realize that I am interested mostly in layers and geometrical patterns in all the photos. My next approach was to explore the layering aspect of my source. To do that I have made few mixed media swatches. At the same time I was also exploring the same idea by tracing different plans from the photos and then rearranging them. I like the result of the last two tracings. They have more illustration like quality which complements their surreal futuristic look.

Final Project :)

Hi again :) This time I have just one FINAL project :) I had to pick something that will keep me interested and excited for a whole year so it may not be a surprise to some of you that I decided to base my work onece again on architecture. Most of my inspiration photos are already in the previous post -I just love the patters and reflections in them. Here are some of them just to remind you what I have in mind.  And here is what I did in PhotoShop to bring some of the plans forward and broaden my research.  Now I just have to do the magic and get something interesting out of them in my sketchbook :) I am looking forward to do that but on the other hand I know it is a tough project.... Well I hope to update you soon with my drawings and swatches :) Please let me know what you think :)
